If you are lazy at all (like me) go for the DVD. As soon as you’re done recording you can take it to grandmas’s and show her your vacation. — The downside is a DVD only holds 30 min of video on standard quality.
The miniDV and HDD are similar. They require that you upload to a computer then write to DVD. — The benfit is you can record for much longer periods of time.
As far as weight goes, they are all pretty similar. The HDD are a bit heavier.

definatly mini DV. its the standard for a handheld camera and is best for editing your footage and then sticking it back on.

MiniDv, easy to tranfer footage to PC so you can edit them, can record 60 min in SP or 90 min in LP mode. If the tape is full, insert another and keep on recording. MiniDV tapes are cheaper than DVD media.

mini-DV use the least amount of power, so you can go “remote” for longer periods of time. Being tethered to the “mains” can restrict your creativity.
