Will its clips do well in Sony Vegas Pro?

  9. kbilyak04 on February 7th, 2010

The files are .mp4 and cannot be imported to Windows Movie Maker. Right now that’s the only thing I don’t like about it.

I’m a person who uses special effects with programs like FxHome Effectslab Pro, on high quality footage and then edits them with software like WIndows Movie Maker. Would this camera be suitable for studio projects like the videos on my channel?

What file format does the Flip™ import?

Good question, but I’m really not sure. I haven’t had it that long, and have never used it like that.

I guess I could play a song on my stereo and record it with the cam, and then play it back. Maybe I’ll try that.

What if I take this to a show where it gets loud. Will this be capable to grab good audio? I’ll probable take some audio recorder too but I’d still like to know if it’s mono or stereo. Thanks

I was going to buy one, and then I went to a Christmas party for work and someone gave me a USB hub that has a cable on it!! It was pretty amazing.

The hub has one male end that plugs into the back of my comp, a three foot cable and then 4 female ports on the hub which I set on my desk.

Transfer time w/ the hub is probably slower than just an extension cable, but it works, and it was free lol.

    Thanks for commenting…and Happy Holidays!!

with the problem concerning your desktop computer USB being in the back of the computer, buy a cable extender that has a Female USB on one end and a male USB on the other. that is what i use even on my laptop.. the device is not heavy but it still pull down a little bit on the usb plugin on my laptop

  16. kbilyak04 on February 7th, 2010

Yeah just plug it into usb and the battery pack charges, or you can just put some regular AA’s in it.

Nice little vid camera. I had the same problem with plugging stuff into the back of the computer and bought a usb hub. It works really well and no more fumbling around in the back.

It’s probably the easiest camera ever. My computer is fairly new, so it automatically detected the device and installed whatever driver it needed. No software to install.

When you plug the cam into your comp a window automatically opens that displays the files, and then you can just copy them to your computer. It really is that easy. It does seem to be very well made for the price. Only thing I REALLY don’t like is it doesn’t have a lens cap/cover.

Nice cam. I have been looking for somthing like this. How hard is it to upload the video to comp from it? Was ther any problems installing the software? Does it seem well made?

YOUR CAMERA ONLY RECORDS 8-10 MINS!!! Thats stupid mine record for 8 hours and I’m getting the Flip Ultra HD for Christmas.

  23. kbilyak04 on February 7th, 2010

    Thank you!!

When I upload the files to my comp the extension is .MP4. So far they seem to play fine in Windows Media Player, but don’t seem to be compatible with Movie Maker. So I am looking into that.

I did try it out last weekend and I was happy with it. Only real downside is the footage is a little shaky if you are walking or driving etc.

great review! i’m lovin’ the price! my only comment is i would love to see them put the tripod screw on the long side rather than the short side. and a question: what format does the final video record (mov, mpeg, avi,…etc) . it would be a plus if it were compatible with windows movie maker. have you tried it out yet? again, excellent price for HD.
